Support Groups :: D.C. Area

Help of Washington is the local chapter of the Herpes Resource Center, a national organization with over 100 support groups.

Help of Washington meetings are confidential and free. You do not have to give your name. We discuss medical, social, and emotional issues related to "living with herpes". We meet for two hours. For directions, call our recorded message at 301-369-1323.

Our regular monthly meetings are held on the second Monday of each month (except on holidays), from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m. at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Magnuson Clinical Center/Bldg. #10 Room 11S235 (11th Floor Conference Room), Center Drive at West Drive, in Bethesda, MD. Parking is permitted in the evening in the lots around the Clinical Center.

If you are driving, go through the Security entrance into NIH just south of Cedar Lane on Rockville Pike in Bethesda. After leaving the Security check point, take the first left on East Dr. Take the next Right on Wilson Dr. Then the next Left on Center Dr. At the next stop sign, turn right onto South Dr. Go to the second Stop sign, turn left and park in the Visitors Parking lot. It is ok to park there after 7 PM.

Walk up the path to go into Bldg. 10, the Clinical Center. After entering the lobby, turn right to walk around the auditorium. Go through the double doors and take the elevators to the 11th floor. Rm. 11S235 is just outside the elevator. Look for the HELP sign.

If you are taking the Metro, take the Medical Center stop on the red line. After going through security, walk up the hill on South Drive till you get to the top and follow the same directions to the 11th floor.

Don't forget to bring identification to get through security. Be sure you don't have any alcohol in your car or they will not let you through.

You can obtain additional driving directions and a helpful map of the campus at the following NIH "Visitor Information" link: At the Clinical Center, follow signs to the Main Elevators, to Main Admissions, or to Mazur Auditorium. To get to our meeting room, take the Main Elevators next to the Mazur Auditorium to the 11th floor. The conference room, number 11S235, is next to the elevators.

Be sure to bring a photo ID, which you will need to show at the security checkpoints. All cars are inspected at the checkpoints, so allow a few extra minutes for that.
